• 1 T. butter/margarine
  • 1 lb. ground pork
  • 8 oz. fresh spinach (chopped)
  • 1 t. salt
  • 1/4 t. nutmeg
  • 2 slices bread
  • 1 egg
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • dough

Sautee pork in butter in a skillet. Add chopped onions, chopped spinach, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. After this is thoroughly cooked, drain mixture in a collander. Break up bread into smaill pieces and add to mixture. Let the mixture cool a little.

Roll out dough on counter top.

Beat egg and stir it into meat mixture. Next, use your blender or food process to puree the mixture. Once this is done, you create the maultaschen by spooning some of the mixture onto the roled out dough. Form squares approx 2"-3" in size. cover the square and seal by lightly applying some water to the edges of the dough before covering it. Make sure these form a nice seal. When this long step is finished, boild the maultaschen for approximately 10 minutes. They should float when they are done. Serve the maultaschen with brown gravy, in a beef broth, in butter with fried onions, or fried with eggs. They are is good in casseroles with cream, cheese, and ham.
